To better understand the potential impact, Datamation Sales Engineering modeled the time savings using deployment information from a mid-sized healthcare customer.
The analysis used several intentionally conservative assumptions:
- Approximately 7,000 active mobile devices distributed across several campuses
- Three nursing shifts supporting a 24/7 operation
- An estimated two seconds saved each time a device is docked
- One docking interaction per device per shift
- An illustrative labor rate of $45 per hour, representative of an average Midwest region nursing salary
At 7,000 devices, saving just two seconds each time a device is docked represents 14,000 seconds, or about 3.9 hours, of time saved per shift.
Across three nursing shifts, that grows to approximately 11.7 hours per day.
Projected across a 365-day year, the analysis indicates approximately 4,258 hours of potential labor time saved annually. Using the $45-per-hour labor assumption, that translates to approximately $191,625 in potential annual labor value.
The exact savings will naturally vary by organization. While device quantities, shift structures, frequency of device use, and labor costs may vary from one deployment to another, the takeaway is simple: meaningful savings do not necessarily require a dramatic change in workflow. At scale, even a two-second improvement can become significant.
